With BIM. Design & Construction Documentation becomes a fairly easy process as we are not actually 2D drafting but extracting information from the Virtual Construction done in the models. This gives the ease of generating as many sections and elevations as the clients or the project demands for better understating and ease of execution at the site. In case of complex shapes of the building, plans can be cut at any wanted level to understand the geometry of the structure, without any additional work. Additionally, change Management in Design is easy as related things get updated automatically, unlike in CAD process where one has to actually modify every element individually.
This also allows us to extract Door Window Schedule, Material / Finishes Schedule, various perspective and everything which goes in an effective Documentation Set. An example is the Children’s Mall at Katara. In this building it was difficult to complete the traditional GFC package using conventional means. We therefore had to resort to a Revit model with proper annotation from which a GFC package was produced.
